I am a Child of God

I am extremely blessed to belong to a great family, I have a family that composes of a great Mother and Father also a younger sister. I know that not everyone is so lucky which is why I am writing this. I know people who have lost a parent and feel a void that is so deep that they try to fill it. I want to tell you that as soon as you accept Jesus you are adopted into a heavenly family where God is your Father and Jesus is your brother also that every Jesus following Christian is your brother or sister. The minute you accept Jesus you become part of a family which gains it identity from a Heavenly Father. So what is that identity? We live in a society where we are defined by what we wear, how we look, who we follow on social media, who we listen to and how we think. As children of God we are called to follow the example set in the Bible and to look at Jesus and follow how He lived in the Gospel. We are called to love our enemies and to forgive then more times that we can humanly count.

Roman 8:12-17

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

In this beautiful verse in the Bible it shows that we are children of God not just children but heirs with Jesus. We are adopted into the family of heaven and we gain all the benefits of that adoption, we can call on the Father at any time. We have a Father who longs to hear from us and wants to answer us more than we are able to ask. Because of this we are not defined by what the world thinks, we are defined by what the Bible says. We die to the flesh our human desires and are born again to the Spirit that live in us. Our sins are dead and put to death with Jesus on the cross, we are forgiven because the price was paid on Calvary. We then have the choice to follow Christ and be led by the Spirit. This Spirit is of God and it’s that Spirit which marks us as Children of God, it bears witness in heaven to both the Father and the Son that we belong to them. It guides us how to live, it enables us to have faith in the Father. It gives us strength and it never wants to bring us down with fear or depression, it wants us to live in our new identity with God.

What does that mean to us as we live in the 21st century. What are we called to follow and who is meant to be our role models? We are called to follow Jesus and everything in the Bible. Is this easy? no it’s a choice, it takes discipline and sacrifice. This is something that takes time and you will continue to do this every day of your life as there is always things we can sacrifice to God. What can we do every day to live this? We can study the living word of God which is our bible. It is our map on how to live, it’s our guide-book and it reveals so much more to us if we spend time reading it. We can study it so that we can understand it more and apply it to our lives. We can spend time in prayer and this opens the throne room of God to us. This is how we get to talk to our Father and build a relationship with Him. This is where the love of the Father is revealed to us and where we get new revelations of who He is and this is where He shows us what sin is in our life. This is where we can come into the place of repentance and we can live in a place of forgiveness. We are called to live a life of worship and prayer, a life of worship isn’t about who we listen to and what kind of music we like it’s about our heart attitude. It’s about where our heart is and what’s in our heart, it’s about our attitude in every aspect of our life and how in the natural things we honor God. It’s about every minute of our life and giving it all to God, to make sure that our attitude is full of love and compassion for people.

I pray that this becomes something that brings light into your life and that you start to understand that the old you before you were saved is not the same person you are now. I pray that you understand that you are made in His image and that He has great plans for you. That every bad decision and sin in your past does not define you and is washed clean by the blood of the lamb, that it is forgiven by God in heaven and is under the blood of Jesus Christ. Please stop picking up your old sins and behaviors leave them at the cross with Jesus and learn to live out your new life as a Child of God. This is who God called you to be, this is who He designed you to be. You are adopted into His family and are now a Child of God.
